New Treasure of Algarath + String Test Program

by Torasko

I’m still studying C++ on a daily basis and just wanted to show off some new stuff I wrote in the last couple of days. First of all, I worked some more on the Treasure of Algarath code and implemented the ability for the player to select a gender, which manipulates the output text in the story. There is also some more story and formulas that determine the amount of bandits and followers deaths. If you’re interested in the new version, then click here to download it.

Aside from this, I used some new (very basic) knowledge to build a little program that asks for your first and surname. It then uses this information to determine the first and last character of the name, shows what will happen if you change the first character, and calculates the exact middle character and shows this character and its position to the user. If you’re interested in the String Test Script, then click here to download it.

Treasure of Algarath (0.1)

by Torasko

Today I’ve been screwing around with the C++ code that I’ve learned in the last couple of days. I wrote the beginning of a text-adventure game, Treasure of Algarath, that works like a console program. This game puts you in the shoes of a young but powerful leader who must guide his or her followers to incredible wealth.

This “game” is still very basic and it can be over in less than 10 seconds. I will ask you to not judge it as it is now, but just see it as something I worked on for a short time and wanted to show to the outside world.

For those interested in the pre-alpha version of Treasure of Algarath, click on the following link to download the package: http://www.torasko.com/…/treasure_of_algarath_010.zip

And by the way, you will die..

Preparing for vacation to Poland

by Torasko

So I’m going on a two-week vacation to Katowice, Poland, on April 9th and there is obviously a lot of preparation to do. Yesterday I called the Royal Dutch Touring Club for a short-term travel insurance and I also got a lot of information about the vacation itself. Transport companies in Poland have been contacted and I also have a place to stay. So far everything is going well.

Update: I received the ticket!

Time for Skyrim update 1.4!

by Torasko

I’ve been anxiously waiting for the new update for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim and it seems like I’m getting it later today. The people that have either the PC or Xbox 360 version can already download the new update and the Playstation 3 version will probably get it later today. The most important part of the update for me is the “long term play optimizations for memory and performance”, which hopefully will remove the terrible frame rate problems I constantly have while playing. Fingers crossed!

Update: The 1.4 update is available in Europe! Time to test if Skyrim works without any problems now!

Update 2: It does!

The end of Tgdb Entertainment

by Torasko

I’ve posted an announcement on the Tgdb Forums (in Dutch) that the end of the company is near. I am satisfied with the message although it wasn’t easy to write. It has been a long and interesting ride with lots of excitement but it’s time to put it behind me.

I will use this blog to talk about gaming in general, old and new trends within the business and the news I am personally excited or shocked about, but you can also expect some ramble and rants. Who knows what might happen..
